Double Gold for Yealands at the International Wine Challenge
Double Gold for Yealands Estate at the International Wine Challenge
25 May 2012
Yealands Estate Wines has been awarded two Gold medals in The International Wine Challenge 2012, announced at the prestigious London International Wine Fair this week.
Securing eight medals in total, the judges awarded both the Yealands Estate Reserve Sauvignon Blanc 2009 and Yealands Estate Single Block S1 Sauvignon Blanc 2011 Gold medals, only eight of which were awarded to New Zealand producers.
“It’s fantastic to see our Reserve Sauvignon Blanc awarded a Gold medal, once again reinforcing the quality of Sauvignon Blanc our Seaview Vineyard is producing,” says Tamra Washington, Chief Winemaker for Yealands Estate.
The Yealands Estate Grüner Veltliner 2011 was awarded a Silver medal, following on from the recent Silver medals the wine was awarded in the Decanter World Wine Awards and the Sommelier Wine Awards earlier in the year.
“We’re thrilled with the positive response to our Grüner Veltliner,” commented Tamra. “It’s an intriguing new varietal for New Zealand and with our fruit coming from relatively young vines it’s so far showing real potential. It’s early days, but I’m excited to see where we can go with Grüner in the future.”
The recent results cap off a very strong month for the Yealands Estate range of wines, with the Pinot Gris 2010 collecting a Gold medal and one of only eight ‘By the Glass’ accolades awarded at the Sommelier Wines Awards.
