Housing New Zealand’s Chief Executive to step down in October

Dr Lesley McTurk, Chief Executive of Housing New Zealand Corporation, will step down in October this year after nearly 6 years service, says Board Chairperson Alan Jackson.

"Dr McTurk can be proud that she has played a leading role in reshaping the model for social housing in New Zealand, working with governments to promote a new, more sustainable sector. She has reformed Housing New Zealand to an organisation ready for the next stages of high performance and excellent service.

"She has lifted Housing New Zealand's state rental business to a new level by leading the strategic improvements to service delivery and asset management that will speed up the pace of change. This will ensure demand for state rental housing is met with the right sized homes in the right places and that tenants get a consistent service.

"It is thanks to Dr McTurk's leadership that Housing New Zealand is set for the journey as the leading social housing provider, a modern business that is responsive to its tenants and has homes where they are needed," says Alan Jackson.

“It's not over yet, however, the Board is pleased that it has a 5 month notice period so that a robust search can be made for the right candidate to lead Housing New Zealand into the future, with Dr McTurk still leading the team to ensure there is a smooth hand over.”
