Maori performing arts to help build business bridge with China
Maori performing arts is powerful medium for connecting businesses in New Zealand with those overseas, according to Te Matatini – the organisation responsible for growing Maori performing arts.
“We’re very pleased to be part of the business delegation heading to China this weekend. And it is good to see kapa haka being incorporated with formal trade talks and efforts to connect businesses here with those overseas,” said Te Matatini’s Executive Director Darrin Apanui.
Te Matatini will be represented in the delegation by Annette Wehi – a kapa haka veteran and a tutor of the prominent kapa haka group, Te Waka Huia.
Besides helping with the delivery of Maori protocols and karanga during the trip, Annette will also be talking with businesses in China about the production Arohanui – The Greatest Love and the largest gathering of the Maori community, Te Matatini Festival, to be held in Rotorua in February 2013.
“While we may not speak the same language as the Chinese, I’m sure they will be impressed with Annette’s presentations and the beauty and power of Maori performing arts.”
The business delegation is
being led by the Minister of Maori Affairs Dr Pita
Sharples.
