NZ’s Most Fuel Efficient Business Revealed

NZ’s Most Fuel Efficient Business Revealed

Take 30 businesses, add an award-winning, fuel efficient car, mix with a selection of enthusiastic drivers and shake up with an exciting eco-drive challenge, to reveal New Zealand’s most fuel efficient company behind the wheel.

The result, with an impressive fuel consumption rate of 3.9 litres per 100km, is Alex Johnston from energy saving lighting specialists, 0800 Save Energy. Alex tops the Honda Business Insight Challenge leaderboard, wins the coveted title of most economical driver and receives the Business Insight trophy.

“I thoroughly enjoyed the experience, as it made me stop and think about how I drive every day, especially in my own car,” says Alex Johnston, reflecting on the challenge. “The Honda Insight makes economical driving that much easier as it highlights where and when you can save on fuel, in an easy, informative way every time you sit behind the wheel.”

The nine-week challenge has seen companies large and small, from all different sectors, gear up to test their thrifty driving, including the top telecom brands and media titles, ‘not-for-profits’, energy companies and even a dentist and an MP.

Taking their place behind the wheel of the Honda Insight - New Zealand's most cost effective car to run in 2010 and Supreme Winner in the 2010 AA Energywise Rally – the drivers tested their thrifty driving during a weekend of motoring. After returning the car, their average fuel consumption for the weekend was recorded, revealing their placing on the Honda Business Insight leader board.

“The response to the challenge from businesses across the country has been tremendous,” says Graeme Meyer, Honda NZ Head of Marketing. “Feedback from all competitors confirms the Insight’s position as one of the country’s most fuel efficient vehicles to run, which is becoming increasingly important to motorists as fuel prices continue towards the $2.50 mark. Alex Johnston from 0800 Save Energy has set the bar in efficient driving for the business world, and we challenge other companies to better this score in the next Business Insight Challenge.”

Honda is now accepting applications from businesses for the next Business Insight Challenge, due to be held later in the year. So, why not throw down the challenge to your competitors, suppliers or even customers. The winning company will be awarded the Honda usiness Insight trophy and the kudos of being New Zealand’s most fuel efficient company behind the wheel.
