Transpower launches new ‘Greenline’ community programme
Transpower announced today that it had launched a new community programme aimed at assisting community-led environmental projects in partnership with communities that host transmission assets.
There are two aspects to the Greenline programme – Greenline partnerships and Greenline projects.
Greenline partnerships establish long-term partnerships with regions that host national grid assets. Local community-led environmental projects are selected, based on set criteria, and working with local councils and community groups, are delivered over a three-year period.
Greenline projects are undertaken as part of Transpower’s project delivery. While building transmission projects, opportunities to help deliver environmental improvements to communities impacted by transmission projects are identified and implemented as part of the project.
Transpower’s General Manager People and Corporate Relations Cynthia Brophy said that the Greenline programme provides another opportunity to ‘give back’ to the communities in which Transpower operates.
“Our first Greenline partnership programmes have now been selected and include Greenline Kapiti, Greenline Horowhenua and Greenline Manawatu. By working closely with the Councils in each of these areas, we have been able to identify some great community-led environmental projects that we can assist with,” she said.
The projects include:
• Greenline Kapiti:
the Waikanae River Corridor Restoration Project
and the Wharemauku Stream Wetland Project (launch
to be held on Monday 11 June)
• Greenline
Horowhenua: the Waiwarara Stream Walkway Project
(launch to be held Monday 18 June)
• Greenline
Manawatu: the Kitchener Park Advancement
Project.
“We are excited to have this initiative up and running and look forward to working with these community groups on delivering their projects,” Cynthia Brophy said.
