42below Takes Its Iconic Cocktail World Cup On A Great Kiwi Road Trip

For the first time in its spectacular eight-year history, 42BELOW will conduct an exhaustive (and exhausting) search, the length and breadth of our glorious nation, to find the three bartenders to represent New Zealand at the 42BELOW Cocktail World Cup (CWC).

42BELOW will be taking a taste of its ‘42BELOW Cocktail World Cup- Lab Experiment’ on the road, holding regional heats in six locations. Eight bartenders will then be selected to take part in a national final in Wellington, from which the three person team will be selected.

The regional heats are as follows:
Sunday 8 July: Auckland – Nathan Club
Tuesday 10 July: Tauranga – Syndicate
Sunday 15 July: Napier – Shed2
Tuesday 17 July: Wellington – Mighty Mighty
Sunday 22 July: Christchurch – Cargo
Tuesday 24t July: Queenstown – World Bar

The New Zealand final will be held on Sunday 29th July at The Front Room in Wellington.

The three bartenders who are chosen for ‘Team New Zealand’ will carry the hopes of an industry… and a nation with them. New Zealand has never won a 42BELOW Cocktail World Cup, a travesty we here at 42BELOW would like to see laid to rest.

In 2012, CWC will push the boundaries of great cocktail making with the most creative and challenging competition yet. Daring the world’s maddest and most genius of mixologists to test their skills, bodies and minds to perform at a level like never before.

Bartenders from all over the world will assemble in Queenstown on September 3rd, for the initial stages of the competition. The 42BELOW traveling laboratory will then journey north for an eccentric and extreme grand final event to be held in Auckland on September 7th.
