May, another great month for new vehicle sales

May,
another great month for new vehicle sales
Motor Trade Association (MTA) says May turned out to be yet another great month for new vehicle sales.
Last month, 8,306 new vehicles were sold overall, compared to 6,563 in May 2011, an increase of 1,743 units (27 percent). Year to date, overall sales are up by 5,388 units (16 percent).
Commenting, MTA spokesperson Ian Stronach said “Buyers continue to recognise good value in the market and are reacting with their wallets. The introduction of Field Days Specials by many distributors worked very well, drawing buyers from across the board. They clearly know when there is a deal to be had. While some traditional commercial models fared really well in May, many models that are not naturally associated with farming also enjoyed a good month, sales wise.”
New car sales were well ahead with sales of 5,942 units up 1,407 units (31 percent), compared to the same month last year. This was the strongest May sales month since 2008. For the year to date, new car sales are ahead of 2011 by 5,077 units (20 percent).
New commercial vehicle sales of 2,364 units were up 336 units (17 percent) compared to May 2011. Year to date, overall new commercial sales are ahead of 2011 by 311 units (4 percent).
Stronach said “With good availability and solid support from distributors, dealers have been able to provide some very good offers to entice buyers. The Field Days season is now well entrenched in buyers’ minds, and although there are some who obviously wait for it, this doesn’t appear to be having much affect as sales have lifted for virtually the whole year so far. It looks like the new vehicle market at least, is well on the way to recovery.”
