New Directors appointed to Auckland Film Studios Limited Board

Auckland Council Investments Limited (ACIL) has appointed Julian Grimmond and Alan Sorrell to the Auckland Film Studios Limited (AFSL) Board of Directors.

Mr Grimmond has been a Director of Film New Zealand since 2006 and was elected chairman in 2008. He has been heavily involved in the film industry as a producer, director and advisor for almost 20 years. Alan Sorrell, a barrister with a background in entertainment and media law, is the chairman of the Arts Board of Creative New Zealand and was chairman of the New Zealand Film Commission for six years. The AFSL appointments take effect immediately.

ACIL, a Council-Controlled Organisation (CCO) holds 100 per cent of the shares in AFSL on behalf of Auckland Council, as part of its mandate to manage key equity and financial investments for the Council. AFSL owns and operates a film studio complex with five sound stages in Henderson, which has hosted production for a number of movies including The Lion, Witch and the Wardrobe, Laundry Warrior, and TV series such as Xena: Warrior Princess and Legend of the Seeker. The studios were also recently used for filming the US movie Emperor.
