New Light Bulbs Make LED Lighting More Affordable

New Light Bulbs Make LED Lighting More Affordable

Auckland, New Zealand – Philips today announces the release of two new additions to its Light Emitting Diode (LED) lighting range, myVision and myAmbiance bulbs. These are designed to give consumers that want to make the switch to next generation LED lighting even more choice and at a lower price point.

The new myVision LED bulbs consume 6W or 9.5W of power and emit light output similar to standard 40W or 60W incandescent bulbs, respectively. The myAmbiance LED Bulb is dimmable with compatible dimmers and uses only 12W of power to generate more light than a standard 60W bulb. Designed to resemble a traditional frosted light bulb, the LEDs fit into existing screw or bayonet cap sockets, enabling an easy transition to LED lighting. All Philips LEDs are mercury-free and produce high quality natural shades of white light.

Philips LED light bulbs use up to 80% less energy than incandescent bulbs and can last 15-25 times longer. With lighting making up around 12% of the average New Zealand home’s electricity bill, converting to energy efficient lighting is one simple and effective way to reduce overall energy consumption.

“Philips has seen a significant rise in LED sales in New Zealand as consumers become more aware of the benefits of switching to LED. With the myVision and myAmbiance ranges there are LED solutions to suit New Zealand homes, and the lower price point makes switching to LED even more compelling”, says David Procter of Philips New Zealand.

While the initial costs for purchasing LEDs remain higher than for their incandescent equivalents, there are savings for households in energy consumed and replacement costs over the average 15-25 year life of a LED bulb.

As well as the savings this delivers for individual households, greater uptake of LED lighting has wider benefits to New Zealand. According to EnergyWise, if every household in New Zealand used efficient lighting, this would save the same amount of power that Hamilton uses each year.

“With LED lighting becoming increasingly accessible to mainstream consumers, Philips expects at least 45% of global lighting to be LEDs by as early as 2015, and 75% by the end of this decade”, says Mr. Procter.

Philips LED myVision bulbs are available nationwide at Bunnings and Lighting Direct with pricing starting at $19.99 including GST. The new myAmbiance bulb and the LED myAmbiance MR16 spots will be available in retail stores from August 2012.

The new next-generation Philips LED home lighting range:

Philips LED myVision bulb
Philips LED myVision bulbs are available in ‘warm white’ and ‘cool daylight’ white light. There are two different wattage variations, which emit light output similar to standard 40W and 60W incandescent bulbs respectively. myVision bulbs have an average lifetime of 15,000 hours or up to 15 years.

Philips LED myAmbiance Bulb
With a power consumption of only 12W, this LED light bulb emits light output more than a standard 60W incandescent bulb, with up to 80% energy savings. Philips LED myAmbiance bulbs have an average lifetime of 25,000 hours or up to 25 years. The myAmbiance 12W bulb will retail for $39.99.

Philips LED myAmbiance MR16 Spot
The myAmbiance MR16 Spot is a state-of-the-art LED spotlight that can be used to accentuate objects in the home with ‘warm white’ and is available in two wattage variations. The 5.5W version has a focused beam angle of 36O, and provides light output similar to a 35W MR16 LV halogen bulb. The 6.5W version provides light output similar to a 50W MR16 LV halogen bulb. Both myAmbiance MR16 Spot options are non-dimmable and have a lifespan of up to 25 years[6] with prices ranging from $29.99 to $34.95.
