Tonight Picks up 35,000 Viewers
TV ONE’s Tonight has picked up 35,000 viewers in the all people aged 5+ demographic for the month of June, with an average 174,000 viewers and 25 per cent of the available audience in its time slot.
These numbers put Tonight 60,000 viewers ahead of TV3’s Nightline, which took 15 per cent of the available audience in its timeslot.
TVNZ’s Editor Daily Programmes John Gillespie says, “Viewers enjoy Tonight because it gives them a solid round up of the day’s news events, as well as covering fresh news as the world wakes up on the other side of the globe. In July Tonight will only get more important for that same reason, as we head into the London games at the end of the month.”
At the other end of the New Zealand day, Breakfast is holding firm with 42 per cent of the available audience, and more than three times the audience of 3 News Firstline, with 111,000 viewers watching the show on average compared to Firstline’s 31,000. Like Tonight, Breakfast will be a key part of TVNZ’s London games news coverage, coinciding with the end of the competing day and wrapping up the events that took place overnight in New Zealand .
TVNZ’s other news programmes continue to keep a convincing lead over their TV3 counterparts, with ONE News taking an average 696,000 viewers, compared to 3 News’ 380,000, and Close Up taking an average 477,000 viewers, against Campbell Live’s 248,000.
