Three Canon Grants to Help Environmental Projects

Media Release
26 July 2012

Three Canon Grants to Help Environmental Projects

Canon New Zealand is offering $15,000 worth of product grants to support worthwhile environmental initiatives undertaken by a range of organisations around the country.

New Zealand currently has over 30,000* community groups, charities, and primary and secondary schools, the majority of which operate on a very limited budget. Canon is calling for applications for the 2012 Canon Environmental Grants – three $5,000 product grants awarded to facilitate environmental projects.

The grants, an annual offering in the past, have been re-established to provide assistance to these organisations many of which are under financial pressure in the current economic climate.

Individuals, schools or organisations working on, or about to embark upon a project that will impact positively on New Zealand’s environment should apply for a product grant via the Canon website by 31 August 2012.

“There are some amazing community-led projects that could benefit greatly from support-in-kind from Canon. Nothing gives us more satisfaction than seeing our products being utilised to benefit our environment and the communities we live and operate in,” said Yusuke Mizoguchi, Managing Director of Canon New Zealand.

“We know funding in this area can be limited and resources are often strained. Canon recognises the importance of having quality equipment to record, document, process and print work, and this is where we hope the Canon Environmental Grants will help.”

The 2012 Canon Environmental Grants see the introduction of three different categories: The Regional Award, The School Award, and The Grassroots Award.

Selection is based on the environmental merits of each group’s nominated project, as well as the need for practical use of Canon digital imaging products. Successful recipients will select up to $5,000 worth of Canon equipment – including digital compact and DSLR cameras, video cameras, binoculars, projectors, printers and water-proof cameras.

This year the grants will be awarded under the following categories:

NEW ZEALAND
Regional Award: An environmental project with significance to a rural or regional area;
School Award: An environmental project being run by a primary or secondary school community;
Grassroots Award: A community group with an income of $25,000 or less.

Applications for this year’s program can be made through the Canon website and close 31 August 2012.

Additional information on Canon’s local performance in its approach to sustainable business is published in the independently verified Canon Oceania Sustainability Reports which can be viewed at http://www.canon.co.nz/About-Canon/Sustainability-Environment
