Highest Result Ever for Clutha Community Awards

The Clutha community have really showed their support of volunteers, with 48 entries received for the TrustPower Clutha District Community Awards: the highest number received since the Awards started in 1999.

Entries for the Awards closed on Friday 24 August. The TrustPower Clutha District Community Awards, which recognise and reward volunteers for the outstanding contribution they make to the local community, are run in partnership with the Clutha District Council.

TrustPower Community Relations Representative Jess Somerville is over the moon at the number of voluntary groups entered for this year’s TrustPower Clutha District Community Awards.

“We have received 48 entries for 44 wonderful voluntary groups and organisations this year. Each of these groups provide an invaluable contribution to the community - so it is fantastic that we now have the opportunity to celebrate the outstanding achievements of these tireless volunteers,” says Miss Somerville.

“I am really looking forward to learning more about the ongoing work of these volunteers and their exciting projects. Also a big ‘thanks’ must go to the people who entered these wonderful groups,” she says.

The Awards cover five categories; Heritage and Environment, Health and Wellbeing, Arts and Culture, Sport and Leisure, and Education and Child/Youth Development. The category winners receive $500 and runners-up receive $250. The Supreme Winner will take home $1,500, a trophy, framed certificate and an all-expenses paid trip to the TrustPower National Community Awards, being held in the Far North district in March 2013.

The entries for the TrustPower Clutha District Community Awards are currently being prepared for judging. The Awards will be announced and presented at a function on Monday 8 October, to which all entered organisations will be invited. Media are welcome to attend.
