New Vehicle
Market Remains
Confident
While new
passenger car sales of 5,959 for August were only 192 units
(3.3%) ahead of August 2011 (5,767) this volume was the
highest August since 2007 when sales were hitting peak
levels pre the GFC. New commercial vehicles were a lot
stronger with 2,216 registrations, up 30.5% (518 units) on
August 2011 (1,698). This was the best August for
commercial sales since 2005.
“The
volume of new vehicle sales appears to be settling back to
the levels we saw in 2007 prior to the GFC,” said Mr Perry
Kerr, Chief Executive Officer of the Motor Industry
Association. “This is positive news for the industry and
we are optimistic this will continue for the rest of the
year,” said Mr Kerr.
Toyota remained in number one position for passenger cars with 869 registrations followed by Ford with 712 and Holden in third with 626. With commercial vehicles again Toyota was in first place with 584 registrations followed by Ford with 346 and Holden 253.
Best-selling model in the passenger car segment was the
Ford Focus with 282 registrations followed by the Toyota
Corolla (262 registrations) with the Holden Captiva third
(238 registrations). In the commercial segment the
best-selling model was the Toyota Hilux with 341
registrations, the Ford Ranger second with 283 registrations
and the Toyota Hiace third on 231
registrations.
