ASB launches first banking app for Windows phones

Media Release
26 September 2012

ASB launches first banking app for Windows phones

In a New Zealand first, the ASB mobile banking app is now available for download on Windows-based smartphones.

The development of the app for Windows-based smartphones means the country’s most comprehensive banking app is the first to be available across Apple, Android and Windows smartphones, accounting for 80 percent[1] of New Zealand’s smartphone market. ASB’s move means that customers using the latest Windows-based smartphones will, for the first time, have access to a dedicated mobile banking app.

“Windows-based smartphones represent a growing segment of the market and we’ve listened and responded to our customers’ requests for a banking app specifically designed for this mobile operating system,” says Michael Ramsay, ASB’s Head of Digital Experience and Commerce. “The ASB mobile app puts banking straight into our customers’ hands, giving them greater control of their money and offering faster and more convenient ways to pay, and we are pleased to now offer this great app with all its innovative features to an even wider range of our smartphone users.”

The ASB Mobile app has had over 177,000 downloads and offers a range of mobile banking services including the ability to make payments to friends via their mobile number or email address without the need for a bank account number. It is also the only banking app to offer the ability to make payments directly to Facebook ‘friends’.

The ASB mobile banking app for Windows smartphones is available for download for free from the Windows Marketplace.
