Overseas Market Report
Stocks pared early gains from the September employment report and ended mixed, though the weekly performance was positive for the first week of the fourth quarter.

The Bureau of Labor Statistics reported a seasonally adjusted increase in US payrolls of 114,000 for last month. Although that number was lower than the expected tally of 118,000, payrolls for both July and August saw substantial upward revisions. July payrolls were now reported to be 181,000 compared with the initial estimate of 141,000, and the revised August reading of 142,000 was a jump from the sluggish 96,000 jobs that were first reported. Another positive sign was that the unemployment rate fell to 7.8% in September, it's lowest mark in more than three-and-a-half years.
