ATV Sales Shinning Light in Soft market
ATV sales year to date to September 2012 were 10.2% up on the same period last year. “The results of the buoyant farming sector which we are seeing in the new vehicle market is also evident in the ATV segment”, said Mr Perry Kerr, Chief Executive of the Motor Industry Association.
The Motor Industry Association in releasing the latest motor cycle data said the four wheel off road sector of the industry was performing well with a total of 5,647 sales of ATVs for the nine months to 30 September 2012. This compares to 5,123 registrations for the same period last year.
Honda have held onto the number one spot selling 2,096 ATVs (38.1%), Suzuki second with 1,583 (28.0%) and Can Am moving up to third position with 643 sales (11.4%).
Mr Kerr said, “the other sectors of the industry were not faring as well with both on road and off road two wheel bike registrations down. The under 50cc on road segment fared the worst decline with sales down 35.2% over this period (1,307 registrations against 2,016 last year). The over 50cc segment was down by only 2.8% (2,768 registrations verse 2,849) with off road two wheel down 7.8% (4,372 verse 4,741).
In the under 50cc segment Honda has moved into top position with 164 registrations (12.5%) followed by Suzuki with 117 and Paggio with 80 registrations. Over 50cc Suzuki retain top position with 614 registrations with Triumph moving up two positions to second (353 registrations) and Harley Davidson retaining third place with 341 registrations. Off road two wheel motor cycles sees Honda and Suzuki tied for the number one position with 1,344 registrations. Yamaha remained in third place with 853 registrations.
