Flossie.com secures funding round for growth

Press Release – 14 December 2012

Flossie.com secures funding round for growth.

Auckland based consumer-tech start-up Flossie.com has secured an injection of capital from private equity investors and appointed additional Directors as a result of the investment round.

Launched in early 2012, Flossie.com is a quiet-time appointments website, inspired by the mega-successful wotif.com and modeled specifically for the hair & beauty industry. Growing at 44% per month, Flossie is quickly becoming the booking channel of choice for New Zealand women.

December 1st marked the successful closing of a second round of funding, this time from a cohort led by Mike Carden and Pete Weaver, formerly of Sonar6 (which was acquired by NASDAQ listed Cornerstone OnDemand earlier this year). Mike and Pete bring to the Flossie board-table experience in scaling fast growing digital businesses, securing international funding and a successful exit.

“Flossie caught our eye as it has clearly set about solving a genuine business and consumer problem. The resulting site is getting impressive traction. We’re excited by the opportunities it presents,” said Mike Carden. “Flossie is helping women throughout New Zealand increase their frequency of purchase. The opportunity to scale this business is phenomenal.”

Jenene Crossan, of nzgirl.co.nz fame, has invested three years into the R&D of flossie.com, and leads as the founding CEO. The company, which charges a commission on each sale, is growing at a rate of around 1,000 new customers per month.

“We’ve taken a number one fan strategy approach to building Flossie, which basically means; make your customers feel like they’re incredibly well looked after and let that build your word of mouth. The strategy is paying off - our customers love the service."

"We started off ‘poking the eyes’ out of the deal site model, knowing that the consumer understood how that proposition worked, but stuck to very firm rules (quiet-times only and minimal number of appointments). Our next iteration of Flossie.com launched this week and took us another step into the direction of becoming a booking channel. We’re confident they’re going to love this even more.”
