Vodafone provides speed at Teretonga

Media Release

Vodafone provides speed at Teretonga

Help is at hand for racing enthusiasts at Teretonga this summer. With high demand expected both at the V8’s and the National Superbike Championships, Vodafone is rolling out a COW (cell site on wheels) ahead of the crowds to provide improved mobile coverage on its high speed network for both events.

The event venue at Teretonga Park Raceway attracts thousands of holiday makers and petrol heads over the course of two weekends, and customers will want to use the full benefits of their smartphones.

Vodafone has been busy preparing for the holiday period and various public events. Over 40 cell sites across the country have been augmented to improve capacity and speed including Omaha, Whitianga, Queenstown, Waihi and Hamner Springs.

COWs will also be installed in Hahei, Pauanui, Mount Maunganui, Russell, Mangawhai Heads, Whangamata and Whitianga, boosting existing mobile coverage to service the needs of temporary holiday makers.

Vodafone’s Chief Network Officer, Tony Baird, says the company monitors network performance year on year to balance the traffic where required over peak periods.

“Ahead of each year’s holiday season, Vodafone boosts its network capabilities to manage the high volume of calls, TXTs and data. Not everyone wants to race back to work in the New Year, so we aim to boost capacity in the busiest holiday spots and events to ensure smartphone and mobile broadband users can still get access to their apps and information from the race track, bach or camping ground.”
