New Zealand Wool Industry Supports Campaign for Wool
Waikato, New Zealand -- February 12, 2013 -- With New Zealand’s recent extension of its participation in the global Campaign for Wool, the scene is now set for capitalising on the investment and support of brand partners over the last three years. With HRH Prince of Wales as its patron, the campaign has gained worldwide attention in its strategy to reposition wool to its rightful position as the fibre of choice.
“For a very small investment New Zealand wool growers, and the servicing industry, are gaining significant long term benefits” says Stephen Fookes, NZ representative for the Campaign for Wool.
The culmination of the last two years of investment was the visit of HRH Prince of Wales for the Diamond Jubilee visit, to attend Shear Brilliance at The Cloud on Auckland’s waterfront in November 2012. This event, demonstrating the creative and innovative abilities of the New Zealand textile industry, provided the opportunity for New Zealand to expose itself to consumers worldwide.
The Shear Brilliance event was funded by the leading wool broking companies Elders Primary Wool, PGG Wrightson, and Primary Wool Cooperative, as well as residues from the previous wool levy fund from Beef and Lamb and Ministry of Primary Industries.
Stephen Fookes says, “Without the generous support of the commercial leaders of the wool broking business we could not have hosted such an event, creating international awareness of NZ wool."
The Campaign for Wool is a global community of sheep farmers, retailers, designers, manufacturers and wool lovers united by patron His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales. The Campaign for Wool aims to educate about the incredible benefits and versatility of wool in fashion, furnishings and everyday life. This in turn, supports many small businesses and local farmers whose livelihoods depend on the wool industry around the globe. New Zealand joined the Campaign for Wool in 2010.
