Plugging The Gap - New Documentary Funding Announced

Plugging the Gap – Significant New Documentary Funding Announced

The Documentary New Zealand Trust applauds both NZ Film Commission and NZ On Air on the new funding initiatives for documentary announced today:

1. $ 2.5 Million Documentary Fund jointly funded by NZ On Air and NZ Film Commission.
2. Te Whai Ao – For Emerging and Experimental Documentary Makers – funded by the NZ Film commission.

At the 2012 Screen Edge Forum session Mind the Gap, the industry considered how funding was becoming endangered for one-off documentaries and lamented the lack of funding for emerging and experimental documentary filmmakers.

“The NZ Film Commission and NZ On Air have taken up the call and given the kiss of life to documentaries. This is exactly what Documentary NZ Trust has been campaigning for all these years” says Alex Lee, Director of Documentary NZ Trust.

At the Screen Edge Forum 2013 (18 -19 April) the session Plugging the Gap will be devoted to discussing the funding, guidelines and framework of the new initiatives.

Screen Edge Forum 2013 will run the annual DOC Pitch; a pitching forum for new documentary projects. A prize package worth $ 17,000 including $ 2,000 cash from The James Wallace Arts Trust will be awarded to the winner of the Best Pitch.

Applications for DOC Pitch close at 12 pm, Thursday 28 March 2013.
