Employers need to note April’s changes

Employers need to note April’s changes

Federated Farmers is reminding farmers that on April 1 the changes to the minimum wage rate, ACC levies and KiwiSaver contributions will come into force.

“From Easter Monday all employers, including farmers, will have to make sure they are complying with these changes when paying staff and sorting out their ACC obligations,” says Bruce Wills, Federated Farmers President.

“The Government is increasing the minimum wage to $13.75 an hour from April 1. Employers may also need to review the pay levels of employees who are being paid just above the minimum wage rate as a result of the increase.

“The 2013-2014 ACC levies will be introduced on April 1 and the KiwiSaver rates change from the first pay period starting on or after 1 April 2013.

“If farmers are unsure about the changes they should contact their accountant or visit Inland Revenue’s, ACC or the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment’s (MBIE) websites.

“Changes to ACC levies and the minimum wage come into force in April every year. Tax changes also commonly happen at this time,” Mr Wills concluded.
