International Luxury Yacht Designer’s Home And Cruiser

International Luxury Yacht Designer’s Home And Cruiser Go On The Market For Sale

One of New Zealand’s foremost powerboat and yacht designers is selling up his landmark Bay of Islands property and his 15 metre cruiser.

Alan Warwick and his wife Gael have lived in Kerikeri for some 35 years, but over the past decade have been increasingly spending more time at their company’s Auckland design studios in conjunction with developing buyer interest for vessels internationally.

Now the couple has decided to sell up their expansive waterfront property overlooking Kerikeri Inlet. The property comprises a multi-level main dwelling with an adjoining two-level residence known as ‘The Loft’. This unique habitat of almost 800 square metres displays a strong architectural style from the late 1970s.

Emphasis is on the relationship between family, friends and hospitality - revolving around the large central courtyard linking ‘The Loft’ to the main house. The entertaining area is an open plan space adjoining the lower kitchen servery - featuring a bar and built-in fridges, and merging to outdoor seating and a gazebo for casual dining.

The property is being marketed for sale by Bayleys Kerikeri through an international tender process closing on April 30. Bayleys Kerikeri sales person Esmae Farrington said potential buyers would also be given the opportunity to purchase a neighbouring 1325 square metre waterfront section – currently undeveloped but with services to the roadside.

“Alan Warwick stakes his reputation on quality, innovation and unique creativity. He demands this in his boats - and his home. The result - his creations mature with a personality and practicality that is timeless,” Ms Farrington said.

“This unique floor plan has been designed for privacy and extensive water views. Hidden below on its own level is the master suite with views to Cape Brett. From his and her dressing rooms and separate spa room you can wander through native bush to a deep water cove below for a refreshing dip.

“Meanwhile, ‘The Loft’ consists of a large multi-purpose hall which lends itself to large gatherings of family and friends, currently used as a games area, with an adjoining kitchen, a dining area, two four berth bunk rooms, separate bathroom, separate toilet/vanity and a large workshop to support the activity in the hall.”

Ms Farrington said that above this cleverly designed ground level was a mezzanine floor with lounge for quiet relaxation or, if required, extra sleeping accommodation. This lounge has its own separate external entrance across a bridge from the road. Atop this mezzanine is the Studio tower with 360 degree views.

The lower level of ‘The Loft’ offers secluded ensuite guest accommodation with private decks amidst stunning native pungas. Here you can enjoy the chattering of the native tui by day and the call of the resident kiwi and morepork piercing the silence at night.

“Here is an opportunity to own a landmark property in close proximity to the Kerikeri Cruising Club and only a 12 minute drive to the Kerikeri township. Here’s a rare chance to fast track to paradise,” she said.

“While the home does have considerable family memories, the property is simply now surplus to requirements.”

Ms Farrington said there was also the option to purchase Alan Warwicks’ own sleek, 15 metre motor cruiser.

“It’s for people of all ages who enjoy life with a dash of verve and viqour. This low-profile sport cruiser concentrates on the essentials. In a busy world, time is precious. For those who want to range beyond the herd, but still have to maintain schedules, high performance cruising in a low-maintenance package is the answer,” she said.

“The 15 metre Ace has big-boat attributes of power and performance, but is easily manageable. For couples who like to escape alone on occasions, this is perfectly feasible. In more gregarious moods, there is always space for children or guests. Constructed in composite GRP and ply, with no brightwork to consume hours of varnishing, the hull and exterior finish emphasises low-maintenance. The interior is all lacquered, requiring just a wipe-down to maintain its pristine looks.”
