Vehicle Sales Continue to Show a Strong Sales

March new vehicle registrations of 9,505 were up 11.5% (977 units) on March 2012 (8,528). Commercial vehicle registrations of 2,705 units were up 33.3% (676 units) on March 2012 and are the strongest March sales volumes since 1985. Passenger car registrations of 6,800 were up 301 units (4.6%) on March 2012, the third strongest monthly passenger car sales since 1990.
Mr Crawford, Chief Executive Officer of the Motor Industry Association said, “This result shows the new vehicle market remains strong, consistent with levels of sales pre the global financial crisis. Commercial vehicle registrations continue to perform at levels last seen in the mid 1980’s.”
Toyota remains the market leader taking 19.4% of total registrations with 1,845 registrations (1,202 passenger cars and 643 commercials). Ford was second overall with 928 new vehicle registrations and Holden third with 904 new vehicle registrations. Holden was second in the passenger car segment with 654 registrations followed by Hyundai with 512.
The top selling passenger car model for the month was the Toyota Corolla with 429 registrations followed by Suzuki Swift with 312 and the Holden Captiva with 220. In the commercial segment the Toyota Hilux was the top selling model with 389 registrations, followed by the Ford Ranger with 368 and Nissan Navara with 300.
For the month the SUV
segment remained the most popular with 28.8% of total
registrations. This was followed by the Pick Up/Chassis Cab
segment which accounted for 19% of all registrations –
with a year to date figure of
16.9%.
