MEDIA RELEASE

New Zealand Health Innovation Hub Appoints Convenor

New Zealand Health Innovation Hub chair Dr Murray Horn today announced the appointment of Professor Stephen Munn as Convenor of the Hub's Health Services and Clinical Advisory Group.

Professor Munn trained as a transplant surgeon at the Mayo Clinic and has been clinical director of intra-abdominal transplant services at Auckland Hospital for over 15 years.

“We are very fortunate to have Professor Munn on board and we are looking forward to him bringing his wealth of health and technology experience to the Health Innovation Hub,” Murray Horn said.

For the past eight years Professor Munn has been engaged in health technology assessment of both new and existing technologies on behalf of the Auckland District Health Board as chairperson of the Clinical Practice Committee.

Professor Munn also sits on the Australasian Health Policy Advisory Committee on Technology and he is experienced in the regulatory and implementation side of novel health technologies, particularly medical devices and diagnostic tests.

The New Zealand Health Innovation Hub was set up last year to help nurture and grow New Zealand’s health technology industry and support the widespread adoption of leading innovations developed within the public health sector.

The Hub is a partnership between four of New Zealand’s biggest district health boards: Auckland, Canterbury, Counties Manukau and Waitemata. The Hub also has the backing of the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment, Auckland Tourism Events Economic Development and the Canterbury Development Corporation.
