Rick Neville in Newspaper Publishers’ Association role
Rick Neville steps in to NPA role
Rick Neville is a seasoned journalist and has probably worked on more newspapers than anyone else in the country.
Now he is putting his feet under the desk at News Works, taking over from Tim Pankhurst as editorial advisor at the Newspaper Publishers’ Association (NPA).
Most recently COO and Editor-in Chief of APN’s regional newspaper group, Neville brings with him four-and-half-decades of experience in newspapers and magazines, a career that began in journalism school in Wellington in 1968.
In the intervening 45 years he has worked across a number of titles from junior reporter to editor roles including a stint at the Evening Post. He spent 12 years in head office roles at INL (now Fairfax) rising to managing director of publishing.
Neville has sat on the boards of INL and Sky TV and was chief executive of Rupert Murdoch’s Advertiser Newspapers in Adelaide before joining APN as a consultant in 2003.
At APN he planned the launch of the Herald on Sunday, managing the paper from day one. Neville has managed APN subsidiary NZ Magazines and headed the teams that established APN’s centralized subbing and layout operation. He also set up the APNZ national news service.
His part time role as editorial advisor at NPA involves counselling on a range of activities including media freedom issues, media in courts, lobbying, general industry questions and the Canon Media Awards.
Neville took up his new role on April 11.
