South Islanders In Line For
More Shopping Choice
Home Direct, leaders
in direct selling, has built a flourishing family business
which for 37 years focused predominantly on the North
Island. Home Direct now heralds its expansion into the
South Island and the introduction of online shopping as the
key components to last year’s record results and
growth.
Established in 1973, Home Direct has grown
from a small family business to a leading multi-channel
national retailer. The company has experienced exponential
growth recently, leading it to hire 15 new staff members and
double its East Tamaki warehouse floor space.
The
company’s highly recognisable fleet of mobile shops will
grow to 72 nationwide by the end of the year up from 65 in
December 2012.
Home Direct opened in the South
Island with three mobile shops in Christchurch in 2010, and
has since expanded its on the ground operation to include
Nelson, Timaru, Oamaru, Dunedin, Mosgiel and Invercargill.
In October 2012 Home Direct opened its online store to
everyone living in the North and South
Island.
These two initiatives resulted in Home
Direct’s customer base in the South Island expanding by
45% in the past 12 months and 12% in just the last 4 months.
This year Home Direct is set to open new
territories in Ashburton, Balclutha, Palmerston, Winton,
Blenheim and Picton. All new areas will have the benefit
of access to all of Home Direct’s shopping channels and
multiple ways to pay.
Home Direct’s general
manager Jodi Comrie says the expansion plans are exciting
and speak to the company’s popularity with the South
Island shopper.
“A lot of South Islanders visit
our online store but what we’ve also noticed is a growing
demand for the mobile store and catalogue offerings,” she
says.
“We will continue to offer a full range to
customers wherever they are – from toiletries, clothing,
bedding, towels, washing machines and furniture to gadgetry
and luxury goods – there’s no reason any customer
can’t get exactly what they want and need from the comfort
of their own home.”
Another key point of
difference for Home Direct is the company’s range of
payment options. Customers can pay by debit or credit
card, hire purchase or use a revolving line of credit to
purchase goods immediately, or can use instalments and use a
layby service for delayed
purchases.
