May Day and the Roger Award For
New Zealand's Worst Transnational
Media
are welcome to attend May Day featuring the Roger Award, in
Wellington this evening.
The Roger Award, which has
run annually since 1997, accepts nominations from the public
and assesses transnationals against four criteria: economic
dominance, people, envrionment and political
interference.
Past winners include NZ Aluminium
Smelters, Warner Brothers, ANZ, Westpac, BNZ, British
American Tobacco, Telecom and Progressive
Enterprises.
Roger Award finalists for tonight's
event are the four Australian-owned banks collectively,
British American Tobacco, IAG, King Salmon, Newmont Waihi
Gold, Rio Tinto Alcan NZ, Taejin Fisheries and Vodafone.

Tonight's
event is also the Unions Wellington May Day celebration,
with contributions from musicians, the CTU and UnionAID
charitable trust.
