Institute of Directors establishes Commercial Board

Media Release

As part of an overall governance review, the National Council of the Institute of Directors (IoD) is establishing a Commercial Board focussed on growing and developing the IoD’s professional services into best-in-class.

The Board will be similar to an operating subsidiary and will take on the role of overseeing and supporting the growth and development of the IoD’s commercial operations. This includes director training and professional development, the IoD’s DirectorSearch appointment service and the increasingly popular BetterBoards evaluation toolkit.

IoD President, Stuart McLauchlan, says “It is important that the IoD has a governance structure that allows us to be nimble and growth orientated and we believe that a commercial board is the right way to achieve that. The formation of the Board will ensure the continuing growth of our professional services while allowing our Council to focus on the development of the profession itself.”

“The IoD is committed to raising the standard of governance in all areas of New Zealand business and society, and this initiative will help us in our mission to deliver on that.

“The Board will be comprised of four to six members who will be appointed based on skills and experience. The roles will be advertised shortly and we encourage individuals who have skills and experience in governance, professional development and/or professional services to consider applying,“ he says.

The Commercial Board will become operational from 1 July 2013.
