Port seeks Auckland’s views

Port seeks Auckland’s views

Ports of Auckland today published its new port development proposals for public consideration.

Tony Gibson, Ports of Auckland CEO said “We’ve spent the past year listening to feedback from Aucklanders and advice from experts, and have come up with a new, more efficient, more compact development plan.

Auckland’s population will increase by up to 1 million people over the next 30 years, and as it grows so will the amount of freight we need to import and export.

We think our new proposal creates a pretty good balance between the need to cater for Auckland’s growth and the community desire to preserve our natural assets. We hope Aucklanders will agree.”

“Auckland’s port is a strategic economic asset for the whole Auckland region, facilitating over $12.5 billion in trade and 187,000 jobs. Whether you live in Parnell or Panmure, Devonport or Drury, the future of the port matters to you”,. said Mr Gibson. “I hope people from across the region will take the time to have their say” he added.

A document outlining the port development proposal has been published on the Ports of Auckland website at http://www.poal.co.nz/about_us/port_development.htm. The document includes an online feedback form, and the site has a number of other background documents related to port development and future growth.
