International architect to bring Italian flavour to design

International architect to bring Italian flavour to design awards

Italian architect Caterina Steiner has been selected to decide the 2013 winner of the prestigious Architectural Designers NZ (ADNZ)/Resene Architectural Design Awards. She is joining well-known members of the New Zealand design community, Tony van Raat and Duncan Joiner on the judging panel.

Caterina was chosen as a judge based on her international experience says Astrid Andersen, General Manager of ADNZ.

“It is a real coup for us to have an international judge with Caterina’s experience bringing an alternative perspective to the process. New Zealand architectural design is really reaching new heights and proving itself on the international stage. It’s fantastic for our members to have their work judged against international standards and to demonstrate the excellence that New Zealand designers are currently achieving – it really is leading edge,” said Andersen.

Steiner, who completed her architectural training at the University of Florence, is currently on a teaching sabbatical as visiting Professor at Unitec Institute of Technology in Auckland. As a judge she says she will be looking to see how entries reflect, represent and explain New Zealand.

“I am particularly looking forward to seeing how entries align and integrate architecture and nature,” says Steiner.
