Holiday park confidence falls slightly
Holiday park owners’ confidence has fallen slightly as winter approaches, the latest Holiday Parks Business Confidence Monitor has found.
The business confidence index has fallen by eight points from March/April to a score of +65 for April/May. This indicates that 65% more respondents are currently optimistic than pessimistic.
Business confidence peaked at +73 in March/April. Even though it has now fallen slightly, holiday park owners are still feeling more positive than they were during the peak summer months of January/February, Holiday Parks Association New Zealand (HAPNZ) Chief Executive Fergus Brown says.
“Overall, there’s a sense that members will continue to be confident in the coming months, even as they come off the March/April high created by our long, hot summer,” Mr Brown says.
The Holiday Parks Business Confidence Monitor, developed and managed by Angus & Associates*, surveys HAPNZ’s 300 members.
While 41% of the HAPNZ members completing the latest monitor said demand was up on the same time last year, 28% felt demand had decreased. A further 28% thought there was no change from April/May 2012.
For the coming May/June period, 55% of respondents expected no change in demand levels compared with last year. 20% expected demand to decrease and 17% expected an increase.
Holiday park owners said domestic visitor flows were a big influence on demand in April/May, while favourable weather conditions were thought to be less of an influence at this time of year.
