Air New Zealand offers improved check-in with new Melbourne kiosk service
Air New Zealand customers travelling trans-Tasman and Pacific Island routes have flocked to use the new check-in kiosks introduced this week at Melbourne Airport.
Passengers can now scan their machine readable passports at a kiosk to be issued with a boarding pass and bag tags in a process that takes around 90-seconds to complete. Passengers travelling with check-in luggage then take it to the ‘bag drop’ area where staff will check their ID and scan their bag tags to accept them for travel.
Since going live yesterday more than 80 percent of customers have opted to use the check-in kiosks at Melbourne Airport’s departure terminal.
Air New Zealand’s Chief Operations Officer Bruce Parton says the 14 check-in kiosks will save passengers time, eliminate the need to queue and improve their overall airport experience.
“The introduction of check-in kiosks in Melbourne is a further expansion of the innovative service that has revolutionised passengers’ trans-Tasman travel experience,” Mr Parton says.
Melbourne Airport’s Chief Executive Officer, Chris Woodruff, says that improving technology is an important part of Melbourne Airport’s future developments.
“We are really pleased to be working with Air New Zealand on the roll-out of this new technology which we believe will deliver a better experience for passengers.”
Air New Zealand also offers kiosk check-in for trans-Tasman flights at Auckland, Wellington, Queenstown and Sydney airports.
Air New Zealand staff will continue to assist passengers travelling to destinations other than New Zealand and the Pacific Islands. A check-in counter will also be exclusively available for premium passengers.
