Engineering Appointment Bolsters Regional Economic Growth
A leading New Zealand hydraulic engineering company based in Nelson is producing significant benefits to the local economy, since appointing a prominent South Island hydraulic engineer last year.
Owen Little joined specialist hydraulic and air/pneumatic engineering company, Fluid Power Solutions (FPS), in August 2012 as part of a growth and development strategy implemented to meet an increasingly high demand for their products and services.
Gary Allen, an experienced hydraulic design engineer and Director of Fluid Power Solutions, says Owen’s appointment has strengthened the company’s foothold, and increased the number of contracts with other local alliances, resulting in higher turnover and economic benefits for the Nelson region.
“At Fluid Power Solutions we differ from many other businesses in our field, because we are wholly dedicated to hydraulics and pneumatics, and specialise in creating innovative customised solutions for a diverse range of primary industries,” says Gary.
“Our specialised designs enable us to partner with other locally established businesses, such as engineering companies, so having Owen on board has cemented our relationships with these businesses, leading to more work for more locals, and supporting the wealth of the Nelson economy.”
Gary also says Owen’s appointment has extended the capabilities of the organization, and enabled more time for research, and detailed record keeping in the way of up to date circuit drawings, which he describes as areas which are “essential for maintaining future growth and development.”
Owen Little says he was attracted by the company’s strong industry reputation and has overseen several successful projects since the commencement of his tenure.
“I relocated from Christchurch to Nelson for the role as Design and Sales Manager at FPS (Fluid Power Solutions) because it was a great opportunity to work with a company at the forefront of its field,” says Owen.
“As an example, recently we partnered with local company Brightwater Engineering to develop a specialised gravel feeder for Fulton Hogan, to assist with the repair of the Tekapo canals, which is a large scale multi-million dollar operation, so facilitating projects such as these is hugely satisfying and rewarding.”
