Fitness Instructors in-house training programme is now
acknowledged as a path to gain a nationally recognised
qualification in a bid to underline their skills in
delivering world class group exercise classes. Until the end
of 2012, pre-choreographed group exercise instructors who
up-skilled quarterly to master their craft were not
acknowledged in this way.
‘These instructors have been delivering world class Group Fitness programmes to members of the public for several years but there has been no formal qualification process in place to acknowledge their skill level and commitment to the industry’ says Alan Reynolds, Learning and Development Advisor – Fitness at Skills Active.
‘In 2011, the fitness industry asked Skills Active, the industry standard setting body, to help correct this situation. A number of key industry stakeholders, including cityfitness, combined their knowledge to help draft the first ever New Zealand Certificate in Pre-choreographed group fitness instructing, which is now listed on the NZQA framework.
These dedicated instructors are now able to gain both a national qualification and be eligible to full registration with the NZ Register of Exercise Professionals.’
Over 170 Group Exercise Instructors from cityfitness clubs all over the country have been awarded the new NZ Certificate in Fitness, Group Fitness, Pre-choreographed.
‘We’re thrilled to be able to recognise and acknowledge our Group Fitness Instructors and it’s also great to be able to offer those looking to become Group Fitness Instructors the opportunity to gain a formal qualification through us.’ says Avril Ringrose, cityfitness National BTS and Group Fitness Manager.
‘as holders of this qualification cityfitness Group Fitness Instructors are now able to register with Exercise Professionals NZ, another demonstration of their commitment to excellence and professionalism within the fitness industry.’
