Vector's Outage Manager App hits Top Ten in App Store
Vector’s Outage Manager, a world leading customer service outage app for android and iPhone smart phone users,* launched last week, has become one of the top ten ranked free utility apps on the App store.
Designed and developed in New Zealand, the Vector Outage Manager app is available free to Vector’s more than 690,000 customers at either the App Store or GooglePlay.
Customers can bookmark important locations such as their home, school or workplace or multiple work sites. Vector’s system does the rest and ‘pushes’ the information out to customers. They get updates in real time about outages and are directed to emergency customer numbers.
For customers with other
non iOS or android smartphones, outage information can be
accessed via Vector’s mobile website. The company’s
other communication channels for outage notification
(Twitter and Vector website) are also now running the new
interactive outage map.

NETWORK SUMMARY for week ending 9 June 2013
ELECTRICITY
More settled
weather during the week could have been a factor in the
reporting of just one car vs pole incident in Mt Albert.
However, the weekend saw a further four car v poles in Te
Atatu, Avondale, Mangere and New Lynn. On Saturday, Police
advised that a cherry picker’s hydraulic system had failed
and dropped the platform onto lines in Whitford. Vector
crews attended and resolved the situation quickly.
Our
crews were called out to isolate the power at two houses and
one business in Penrose as a result of fires.
GAS TRANSMISSION AND
DISTRIBUTION
Contractors in Hamilton struck a
gas pipe while working and our crews were on site quickly to
make urgent repairs. There were two other incidents, one in
Remuera and one in Gisborne, where there were suspected gas
leaks and our crews attended the affected areas to assess
the situation.
PROJECTS
A major
upgrade of the Maraetai substation is nearing completion.
The objective of the five month project is to replace the
ageing 11 kV switchboard (commissioned in the 1950’s) at
the substation including the DC power supply,
instrumentation and transformer management systems. In
addition, seismic reinforcement of the building was achieved
by spraying a 100mm layer of concrete onto a steel mesh
lattice attached to the existing walls. It is the first time
this technique has been used on one of our
substations.
More than a hundred kilometres of old gas pipes in Auckland are being replaced as part of Vector’s four-year programme to renew the network. In Auckland, a crew of 20 have been digging more than 12 holes a day, through hard volcanic rock and replacing around 200 metres of gas main and 30 gas services for individual customers every week. Currently, the work is taking place in Onehunga, where 22 kilometres of gas pipes are being replaced along multiple streets in the area. The Onehunga phase of the gas project will be complete in three weeks time.
