Critical Aviation Issues on the Agenda at NZALPA Conference

The New Zealand Air Line Pilots’ Association (NZALPA) is pleased to be in Wellington for their Annual Conference being held from 18 – 20 June at the Copthorne Hotel Oriental Bay.

NZALPA President Glen Kenny said “NZALPA has a number of important issues on the agenda including the construction of a new air traffic control tower at Wellington Airport, possession of handheld lasers, the upcoming review of the Civil Aviation Act and proposed changes to Industrial Relations legislation and the rights of workers.”

“The Association is pleased to hear the recently announced proposed improvements envisaged for Wellington Airport” said NZALPA Technical Director Stu Julian. “A critical element of this investment is ensuring that Wellington Airport is provided with 240m of RESA which meets internationally recognised safety standards.”

Runway end safety area (RESA) is universally accepted worldwide as a critical safety feature at airports as it provides an area of runway for stopping should an aircraft overrun the runway.

Mr Julian says “When you consider Wellington Airport’s environment including water, hills and wind conditions, NZALPA believes 240m of RESA is essential for the completion of a successful project.”
