CCDU'S Commitment to Progress Welcomed
Property Council New Zealand has welcomed yesterday’s announcement by the Christchurch Central Development Unit (CCDU) of a restructure to be completed this month and the publication of clear timelines and milestones for the city’s Anchor Projects by 1 September.
Property Council chief executive Connal Townsend said the property industry was enthusiastic and positive about opportunities to be part of the rebuild of the Christchurch CBD, even with the clear delay in getting the Anchor Projects off the ground.
“Christchurch is one of the biggest opportunities for the industry and our members want to get stuck in to rebuilding the South Island’s commercial centre,” he said. “The vision for Christchurch – the blueprint – is still one that we aspire to see take form.
“This announcement, combined with the landmark cost-sharing agreement between the Crown and Christchurch City Council, means land owners and property investors and developments can now put a circle around 1 August and 1 September and start planning with more confidence.”
In a Market Update yesterday, CCDU advised that the cost-sharing agreement meant there would be changes to the structure of the unit, to be detailed in a Market Update before 1 August 2013.
It said that full timelines and milestones for the procurement processes for each project to be led by CCDU would then be issued in a Market Update before 1 September 2013.
Exceptions to this were:
1. A request for credentials for engineering and
architectural services for the Metro Sports Facility.
Expressions of Interest will be sought on 15 July.
2. A
request for quotations for project management and quantity
surveying for the Metro Sports Facility. This will also be
issued on 15 July.
3. Ongoing work associated with the
Avon River Precinct and the East Frame by 31 July.
“The industry obviously understands that there may need to be changes to timelines for a project as big as the rebuild of Christchurch, but it is very important that everyone is kept up to date at all times,” Mr Townsend said.
