Fourth of July Safety Charter Signed at Novotel Christchurch
Fourth of July Safety Charter Signed at Novotel Christchurch
8 July 2013: Normally associated fireworks, barbeques and political speeches, the 4th of July celebrations now has a whole new meaning for Novotel Christchurch Cathedral Square, following the signing of a safety charter by 50 construction, insurance and government leaders at the hotel.
The Minister for ACC The Hon Judith Collins and The Labour Minister, The Hon Simon bridges, were both in attendance as the Novotel opened its doors to the function attended by 200 people.
“Normally the 4th of July would be celebrated with American style,” says Carl Braddock, General Manager of Novotel Christchurch Cathedral Square. But this year, although the hotel is not yet open for overnight guests, we hosted the signing of a Safety Charter to agree conditions under which to keep everyone working on the Canterbury rebuild, safe.”
The signatories, many, competitors in the building industry, have committed to 10 Charter actions creating a consistent and collective approach to health and safety on all Christchurch rebuild worksites.
“What is significant about the signing here says Carl, is that Hawkins Construction is a key partner in the accord and they suggested our site in pre-opening, as an example of their safety record - confident that the hotel, even in the late stages of finishing, was safe, sound and ready to welcome the 200 invitees.”
As it happened, the Novotel achieved 100% compliance as late as 6pm on the 3rd July, just in time for the historic signing.
With 154 rooms and Conference Centre, Novotel Christchurch Cathedral Square opens on Monday 19th August.
