Arrr me hearties – ‘tis a Moa at the Pier 29 bar

The Moa Team

Break out the horn pipe, there’s some landlubbers on the horizon and they’re bringing new grog to the tip of Pier 29, overlooking the finish line at the America’s Cup.

Hot on the wake of its support of The Waiheke Island Yacht Club in San Francisco, New Zealand craft beer brand Moa is providing yachting fans with an opportunity to connect with their inner pirate.

The pop-up bar– known colloquially as the Bar of Arrr - is assuming a classical pirate theme and putting its own spin on the nautical goings on in San Francisco Bay

The area is being fitted out with lounge zones with huge day beds and cushions, seated areas, a DJ and TV screens to stay connected to the racing.

And befitting the America’s Cup, there are chests-full of genuine pirate eye patches for the one-eyed fans out in their hordes now racing has started.

“With the Pier 29 bar area completely open to the ocean, this is a fantastic place to take in everything that is great about the world’s greatest yachting trophy,” says Moa Brewing Company CEO Geoff Ross. “It means New Zealand won’t just have a strong presence on the water, they’ll be getting the Kiwi message on land too.”

The bar stocks the full Moa range from New Zealand with both draft and bottle options. There’s also a Moa tasting tray, for those who want to sample more than one grog ration.

To make a connection to its New Zealand origin, the bar features large visuals of New Zealand landscapes fronted by local wildlife. And because the Kiwis are as one-eyed as the best of us yachties, the animals too wear eye patches.

To make sure the pirate mood isn't left to the moment, pirates can take a pictures of themselves and friends in celebratory mode, leaving them on the Bar of Arrr wall for all to see.

Because the Pier 29 Bar runs right through to the end of racing, it’s also appropriate it will be in full swing on International Talk Like a Pirate Day – smack in the middle of the America’s Cup itself on September 19.

See you at the bar.
