Changes to the Pacific Business Trust Board create new opportunities
Three key appointments to the Pacific Business Trust Board bring new expertise and builds on the strong foundations of departing members which will continue to foster Pacific business success.
Ms Selma Scott, of Samoan descent, will chair the Pacific Business Trust Board, replacing Caren Rangi. Ms Scott, a principal in her own law practice, has been a member of the Board since April 2007. Her appointment has been extended and she has agreed to chair.
“It is an honour to be chosen as Chair of the board of Pacific Business Trust. I pay tribute to our previous Chair, Caren Rangi” says Ms Scott, who replaces Ms Rangi, who has resigned for personal reasons.
Ms Rangi has made an invaluable contribution to the board since joining in 2007 and being appointed Chairperson in 2011.
“As a Trustee for the past six years, I have been proud to see the changes we have made in delivering and developing approaches to support Pacific business,” says Ms Rangi.
“From this foundation, I look forward to seeing PBT further initiate, support and facilitate Pacific business success that makes a strong, visible contribution to the New Zealand's economy.”
Auckland-based IT expert Shirley Sisepi-Fraser has also completed her term as a Trustee, leaving behind a strong legacy with her departure.
“I have seen PBT develop and provide practical assistance to the Pasifika business community,” says Ms Sisepi-Fraser. “It has been an utmost privilege to be involved in crafting such great successes.”
Selma Scott acknowledged the valuable contribution of Miss Sisepi Fraser, with her IT expertise, business acumen and community ties. She says both Shirley and Caren have left strong legacies.
Two new appointments have been made, with Ms Repeka Lelaulu and Mr Teremoana Kenneth Mato joining the PBT Board. Both are for three-year terms.
Mr Mato, of Cook Islands descent, has a wealth of international experience in exports, trade and investments, and is excited by the opportunity to assist Pacific business people to succeed.
“The appointment is a platform that gives me the opportunity to further advocate the business and economic interests of our Pacific people in New Zealand,” says Mr Mato.
“I know our people are entrepreneurial and have the skill-base and desire to succeed, and our role is to guide and nurture those skills.”
Ms Lelaulu has extensive experience in the private sector, including 22 years in real estate and having owned businesses in the Pacific region.
“Being on the PBT board means I am more accessible to people who may benefit from what I can offer,” says Ms Lelaulu.
“I like to help people add value to their future both personally and financially though the setting of goals. It’s about giving back to the community I love.”
Ms Scott says the new appointments offer exciting opportunities.
“The Board’s aim is to consolidate the organisation to grow and develop Pacific businesses to make the most of these opportunities and to become a significant contributor to the New Zealand economy,” she says.
“We appreciate and value the support and goodwill the Trust receives, and we look forward to forging stronger relationships with all of our stakeholders.”
