Be the Face of Take a Kid to Footy

Media Release July 2013

BE THE FACE OF TAKE A KID TO FOOTY –
SORRY DADS, THIS ONE’S FOR THE KIDS!

Whether you have a sports-mad dad who has drilled the rules, tactics and importance of the great game into you since birth; or you’re a sports news highlights-watching kid; growing up, it’s a Cantabrian rite of passage to learn a thing or two about footy.

This rugby season, not only can Canterbury kids attend their favourite team’s games on a regular basis, but The Palms Shopping Centre in conjunction with the Canterbury Rugby Football Union is giving one young local rugby-mad fan the chance of a lifetime – to be the face of the ‘Take a Kid to Footy’ initiative.

To be considered for the ultimate prize, entrants can simply visit The Palms Facebook page and click through to the competition page. Then, upload a photo via the online entry form, of themselves (or the child they are entering) and two friends dressed as Canterbury rugby’s biggest supporters. Entrants are encouraged to get creative, don their best red and black memorabilia and invite friends and family to like their photo.

The winning entry will be determined according to the number of ‘likes’ the entrant’s photo receives on the competition’s Facebook page. Entries are open now until 24 July 2013. The kids in the winning photo will then get the chance to front the successful Take a Kid to Footy initiative.

Hamish Riach, Chief Executive Officer of Canterbury Rugby Football Union is excited to be partnering with The Palms for the second consecutive year to boost local participation. “We were so impressed with how the partnership went last year and the interactive initiatives undertaken by the centre to get shoppers involved with the sport. Take a Kid to Footy is a great way to involve mums, dads, aunts, uncles and, most importantly, kids within the local community – all while supporting our local team.”

The Palms centre manager, Simon Carter, believes this is an opportunity local kids will grab onto with gusto, “Kiwi kids, especially Canterbury kids, love footy – it’s our national sport. What better way to involve kids, encourage participation in and attendance at the sport than to be the face of a local campaign? I wish I could enter!”

Who knows, the lucky winner may even get to meet a few of their black and red-striped rugby-playing heroes.
