Cruise Industry Leader Welcomes Official Queens Wharf Ribbon Cutting

Cruise industry leader, Carnival Australia, which operates P&O Cruises and represents six other iconic cruise brands, today welcomed the official ribbon cutting ceremony for Auckland’s Shed 10 multi-use cruise terminal.

Carnival Australia CEO Ann Sherry AO congratulated Auckland Council and Waterfront Auckland for their leadership in the redevelopment of Shed 10 to maximise cruising’s growing contribution to the New Zealand economy.

“New Zealand is one of the world’s most attractive cruise destinations and Auckland now has a cruise facility that will enhance the city’s popularity with both local and international cruise passengers,’ Ms Sherry said.

“Queens Wharf’s perfect location at the doorstep of Auckland’s vibrant city centre sets the terminal apart in terms of its close proximity to restaurants, hotels and tour and transport operators, all of whom benefit from the long value chain of cruising.”

According to Cruise New Zealand’s forecasts for the 2012-2013 cruise season, cruising was expected to contribute nearly $330 million to New Zealand’s GDP with a 20 per cent increase in passenger arrivals.

Ms Sherry said cruising to and from New Zealand would continue to go from strength to strength with local travellers having access to an impressive range of cruise experiences.

“The newly refurbished Queens Wharf precinct is a great investment in the future, which adds to Auckland’s lustre with the addition of a cruise facility that is in keeping with its position as a regional cruise hub,” Ms Sherry said.
