Kathmandu Makes Dreams Come True For New Zealand Adventurers

Four New Zealanders from around the country have been awarded scholarships by Kathmandu to attend Outward Bound courses at Anakiwa in the Marlborough Sounds.

Scholarship recipients are Rosemary Morrison from Paraparaumu, Eric Sinclair of Masterton, Roseanne Cormac from Pahiatua, and Gary Wilton of Dunedin.  All will attend an Outward Bound course this year, after submitting a 200-word entry about why they want to attend Outward Bound.

Outward Bound Chief Executive Officer, Trevor Taylor, said the aim of the scholarship programme is to provide more New Zealanders with the opportunity to embark on a journey of self-discovery by completing an Outward Bound course.

“Over 50,000 New Zealanders from all walks of life have been to Outward Bound in the Queen Charlotte Sound, and each of them has been inspired to reach their full potential through the outdoors.  It’s great to be working with Kathmandu who also supports our goal to help more New Zealanders unlock their potential through outdoor challenge and adventure.

Paul Stern, Kathmandu General Manager Business Development and Sustainability, said the ‘Live the Dream’ scholarships aim to help New Zealanders discover or enhance their connection with the outdoors. 

“We hope each of the recipients will come away from the course having experienced new adventures, forged new friendships and potentially, gained a new perspective on life,” he said.

The Kathmandu ‘Live the Dream’ scholarships have been awarded to 52 New Zealanders since the programme began in 2005. As part of the relationship between the two organisations, Outward Bound also field tests outdoor equipment for Kathmandu.
