Registrations open for landmark tourism event

A bold plan to ignite growth and increase the economic returns from New Zealand’s $23.4 billion tourism industry will be launched at the 2013 TIA Summit, taking place in Wellington on 1 October.

Registrations for the Summit have opened today at www.tianz.org.nz/main/2013_TIA_Summit

Organised by the Tourism Industry Association New Zealand (TIA) and supported by Westpac, the one-day event for leaders of New Zealand’s tourism industry will be firmly focused on the future.

“At the 2012 TIA Summit in October last year, we challenged the tourism industry to take a ‘Think Different’ approach to addressing long-standing issues and engaging new opportunities. The industry‘s response was to embrace that challenge,” TIA Chief Executive Martin Snedden says.

“As a direct result, we will be ready to launch Tourism 2025, a framework created by the industry, for the industry, providing tourism in New Zealand with a sense of how a cohesive industry can consistently operate successfully within a fast-changing and increasingly competitive global tourism market.”

TIA is working with both the private sector and public sector to develop this aspirational plan that aims to unite and inspire the industry to adapt and succeed. It has a firm focus on growth – yield, profitability and return on investment – and improved sector productivity, all underpinning a quality visitor experience.

The Summit will culminate with a TIA Dinner where we will celebrate not only the launch of Tourism 2025 but also 60 years of New Zealand’s national tourism industry organisation.

The winners of the PATA Young Tourism Leader and Sir Jack Newman Awards for 2013 will be announced at the dinner.

“These awards give us an opportunity to celebrate individual achievement in tourism, recognising both a rising star changing the future of the industry, and a visionary leader who has made a significant contribution,” Mr Snedden says.

A fantastic new prize package is being developed for the PATA Young Tourism Leader award winner, to offer them opportunities that money can’t buy to meet key tourism influencers and leaders, and draw on their experience and knowledge.

Entries for the awards will open later this week at http://tourismawards.co.nz/
