2013 New Zealand Diversity Award winners announced
Nine organisations which have made an outstanding contribution to community development and promoting cultural diversity will be recognised at the annual New Zealand Diversity Awards at Te Papa this evening.
Race Relations Commissioner Dame Susan Devoy said the variety of winners reflects the wide variety of ways in which a greater understanding and appreciation of cultural diversity can be achieved. “There are so many ways we can work positively for change and these awards give a great snapshot of what is achievable,” she said.
The awards ceremony closes the ninth New Zealand Diversity Forum, an annual event that brings together community groups, government and business organisation to share experiences, ideas and best practice in the areas of race relations, human rights and cultural diversity.
This year’s winners include Refugee Trauma Recovery, whose services for refugees range from trauma counselling to creative writing workshops, and Voice Arts Trust, a Wellington based organisation who specialise in community development through theatre.
