Made to Match: Quality Ingredients Are the Perfect Recipe
MEDIA RELEASE AUGUST 2013
Quality Ingredients Are the Perfect Recipe
Any chef will tell you that the secret to their success is using the freshest quality ingredients. What you may not know is that the same rule applies to brewers. In the latest instalment of the Made to Match series, Al Brown shares his tips on how to cook up a storm using nothing but natural, simple and fresh ingredients and how to match these with the perfect style of beer.
Al explains; “I’ve found the brewing philosophy is pretty similar to my own. They follow the less is more theory and don’t look to overcomplicate things. Four natural ingredients are used to make beer; malted barley, water, yeast and hops. It’s the hops that help define the style and flavour of the beer – they create the notes for a great food/beer match.”
Mark Goldman, one of the Brewer’s involved in the development of featured beer Steinlager Pure comments, “I work with hops everyday. They’re very versatile and make a huge impact on a beer’s taste and flavour. Steinlager Pure uses Pacific Jade hops, initially developed alongside the creation of Pure, giving it a very distinct, smooth yet bitter flavour and unique taste.”
Goldman continues, “Other beers, such as Hoegaarden, use different natural ingredients like wheat, orange and coriander. Together this combination creates a distinctive taste.”
In Al’s latest episode he creates a delicious dish of locally caught fish with a crisp, green salad. Al serves up his creation with the perfect accompaniment – a cold, fresh bottle of Steinlager Pure beer.
