TNZ and AirNZ announce Three Year China Partnership

to Develop Tourism to New Zealand

Tourism New Zealand and Air New Zealand today signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in Shanghai to officially announce their plans to work together to develop tourism to New Zealand.

The signing of the MOU follows the development of a three year joint China marketing strategy to promote New Zealand as a premium destination to highly valued Chinese visitors.

The event was attended by New Zealand Associate Minister of Tourism, Hon Chris Tremain; Air New Zealand General Manager, Asia, Sandeep Bahl and Tourism New Zealand General Manager, Asia Markets, Tony Everitt.

The objective of the partnership is to promote long term sustainable growth in demand for travel to New Zealand. With the overarching aim of growing overall visitor numbers, the priorities will be to target different visitor segments to grow year-round demand and encourage longer stays in New Zealand.

In addition to driving leisure visitor segments, both Tourism New Zealand and Air New Zealand will work closely to encourage more convention and incentive travel to New Zealand, focus efforts around developing special interest segments, grow demand for year-round travel to New Zealand and improving online content and web functionalities.

“China with its rapidly expanding economy has become New Zealand’s second largest tourism market, and is a key focus for New Zealand.” said Minister Tremain.

“The New Zealand government and the tourism industry are working together to invest in-market and the tourism industry is developing products in New Zealand to meet the specific needs and expectations of Chinese guests.”

Air New Zealand Regional General Manager Asia Sandeep Bahl says with increased seat capacity and daily flights from China, Air New Zealand will continue to improve connectivity between the two countries to meet growing demand.

Tourism New Zealand and Air New Zealand have a long-standing relationship and a successful history of working together in China.

Over the past year, Air New Zealand and Tourism New Zealand have undertaken joint marketing campaigns targeting Chinese travellers around the themes of luxury, romance and The Hobbit.
