Fastway Couriers Makes Key FSO Appointments

Fastway Couriers Makes Key FSO Appointments

Fastway Couriers has announced the appointment of five new specialists at its Napier Franchise Support Office (FSO). The appointments follow Austin Mortimer's promotion to CEO of Fastway Couriers (NZ) and forms a key part of Austin's "new vision" for the New Zealand-owned and founded courier franchise business.

Austin says specialised skills, a renewed focus on the latest IT and further organisational efficiencies will make Fastway "lighter on its feet" and more responsive to changes compared to larger players in the rapidly evolving courier services industry.

"We are working to advance the company by tapping into the knowledge and experience of a range of very committed business people. The new appointments at our Napier franchise support office will power new initiatives throughout 2013 and 2014, including introducing new technology, enhancing our service offering and raising efficiency across the network," says Austin.

Henry Wedd has been appointed Franchise Business Manager – Finance; Former Fastway Couriers Waikato General Manager, Doug Hope, has been promoted to Franchise Business Manager – Systems; Hemant Joshi has been appointed Franchise Business Manager – Operations; Tim Rumble has been appointed as IT Manager; and Sandra McNair has been appointed as Graphic Designer.

Hemant Joshi says spending over six years driving efficiency for Air New Zealand's airport operations primed him to be part of Fastway Couriers' new direction.

"Subject matter experts have been appointed across all fields and the team will be working together to take the company to the next level. This franchise-wide improvement strategy will see Fastway Couriers embrace new ideas and the latest technology for the benefit of all franchisees and clients," says Hemant.

"I'll be looking after the operations side of the business, making sure the franchisees are following the franchise model, have the right tools to do their job and determining if there are any operational improvements we can introduce to bring efficiency and cut down waste."

Likewise, Henry Wedd, whose background lies in corporate finance at some of the world's largest investment banks and a range of leading New Zealand companies, says he's excited to be coming on board at such a pivotal time for the company.

"Austin is an inspiring leader with a clear vision for Fastway to become Number Two in the New Zealand market by 2014. To achieve that goal, he has focused on building a strong FSO team, complete with all of the skills Fastway will need on that journey," says Henry

"Fastway Couriers is now 30 years old and it's a business which has a lot of history, especially in the Hawke's Bay region. However, one of the great things about it is that we don't have to redesign the business’ fundamental processes because the original model is so effective. My role is chiefly to search for new efficiencies, make sure everything is running smoothly and solve problems as they occur."

Henry says he looks forward to the road ahead with Fastway Couriers.

Fastway Couriers is currently celebrating its 30th anniversary.
