Jennian Homes is “Going Red” to Promote Women’s Heart Health

17 September 2013 – Jennian Homes, a partner of the Heart Foundation is “Going Red” throughout the month of September to help them raise funds for research into women’s heart disease. According to the Heart Foundation, each week 48 New Zealand women lose their lives due to heart disease, making it the single biggest killer amongst Kiwi women.

Jennian Homes is a sponsor of Go Red for Women—the Heart Foundation’s campaign to increase awareness for women’s heart health. To raise vital funds to assist in research, Go Red for Women Breakfast events will be held around the country throughout the month of September.

The fundraising efforts kicked off in Auckland September 6 where approximately 250 people gathered at the Crowne Plaza to hear from 2011 New Zealand Masterchef winner, Nadia Lim and campaign patron Dame Jenny Shipley, who will also speak at the upcoming Ashburton event.

Via the Heart Foundation website, Ms Shipley advises that her own personal experience with heart disease led her to champion the cause. “I was fortunate to survive a heart attack when I was 48, I wear dreadful genes in terms of my family’s history and so I am conscious that I need to do what I can to keep myself well and also to keep other women well. I feel very privileged to be able to give my time and energy to a project that really can make a difference for New Zealand women”.

Upcoming breakfasts are scheduled in Christchurch, Ashburton and Nelson where those attending will hear and receive a cooking demonstration from Ms Lim as well as presentations from leading cardiac specialists. Attendees at the Ashburton event will have the opportunity to hear former Prime Minister and campaign patron Dame Jenny Shipley speak alongside the cooking demonstration and heart health presentations.

Along with the fundraising breakfasts, the Southland franchise of Jennian Homes is also organising an Open Home with all proceeds going towards heart disease research. The Open Home, scheduled for September 21 will take place at the Invercargill show home. Guests will be treated to nibbles and hear from a special guest speaker who will share her knowledge about women’s heart health.

Further information on heart disease is available on the Heart Foundation’s official website www.heartfoundation.org where tickets for the “Go Red for Women” breakfasts are also on sale up to 72 hours before the event.
