Small Business Summit is likely to be a bruiser

The organisers of this Friday’s Small Business Summit make no secret of the fact that they want answers from the politicians who will be attending.

They claim that SMEs have been ignored by the politicians for too long and deserve much better representation.

“There are 450,000 SMEs in New Zealand. They generate close to half of our country’s GDP and represent 97% of employers. Despite this, it is only big business and the unions that get any attention — we have enough votes to potentially make or break any political party,” says Summit organizer and CEO of Small Business Voice, Max Whitehead.

The politicians attending the Summit are the Minister of Small Business, John Banks, Labour’s Shane Jones, National’s Maggie Barry and David Clendon from the Greens.

Mr. Whitehead says that because of all the interest the Summit is generating, the founder of the SME Business Network, Tenby Powell, asked to join the panel in order to express the views and frustrations of his network’s 5000 members.

“While we do still have some seats available, we are concerned that the venue might not be bigger enough in the future,” says Mr. Whitehead.
